When the pH level is high, it means the pool water is too alkaline. The water will appear cloudy and cause calcification, usually at water level, which will look black and grimy if you don’t take care of it. Swimmers are likely to experience burning eyes and noses, as well as a rash or itchy skin. It can also cause swimwear, pool toys and equipment to deteriorate. You will need to purchase pH Minus, which can be spread on the surface of the water. However, if that doesn’t work, don’t hesitate to contact us.
If the acidity of your water is too high, it will dissolve pool tiling grouting and plaster. It corrodes swimming pool equipment, causes swimwear to fade and may result in burning eyes and noses and itchy skin.
It may be due to the water you used to fill your pool, if it has a low pH level or if due to torrential rain. Alternatively, you may have used too much pH-Minus. Human sweat, body oils, urine and saliva can affect the levels as well.
Chlorine levels are reduced by a number of factors—exposure to the sun (this can be reduced by the addition of a pool cover), the number of bodies swimming, dirt, debris, low or high pH levels, even not adding enough chlorine for the size of your pool.
If your swimming pool is being used on a daily basis, it’s recommended to test your pH and chlorine levels a minimum of twice per week. A chlorinator is a good way of maintaining a consistent level.
